About the Author

Dr. Kenneth Shore is a school and clinical psychologist who has authored six books for parents and educators. He worked for over 25 years as a psychologist and chairperson of a Child Study Team for various New Jersey school districts. He is now in private practice offering therapeutic, evaluative and consulting services.

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor of Arts (cum laude), University of Rochester, 1971
  • Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.), Rutgers University, 1981
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES:
  • School Psychologist and Chair of Child Study Team for the Hamilton (NJ) Public Schools, 1980 – 2004. During Dr. Shore's many years in the public schools, he has worked with thousands of parents as well as students of all ages and characteristics.
  • Consulting Psychologist to Family Court, Trenton, NJ, 2003 – Present
  • Consulting Psychologist to NJ Juvenile Justice Commission, 1998 – Present
  • Consulting Psychologist for North Mercer Family Consultation Center, Princeton, NJ, 1990 – 1996
  • Co-developer of the New Jersey YM-YWHA camp for children with learning disabilities
  • Researcher for the Federal government in evaluating educational legislation
  • Consulting Psychologist to the New York City Board of Education. Developed an assessment system for evaluation of children experiencing school-related difficulties.
AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS:
  • Named School Psychologist of the Year in New Jersey for 2004.
  • Awarded the Peterson Prize by Rutgers University for "outstanding contributions to professional psychology."
  • Article for Sesame Street Parents magazine nominated for national award.

  • Internet: Writes a weekly column for the web site Education World; Helped develop content for eSCORE.com and NSchool.com web sites;

PRESENTATIONS:
    Dr. Shore has given talks to many professional and parent groups across the country on issues related to parenting, educating children with special needs, and issues of media violence. Most recently, he has made presentations to parent and professional groups about bullying.
